What an unprecedented delight The House that Adelia Built it not only a fast paced read it’s also an eerie one one that is simply delightful and creepy Part of what makes this novel so good is the atmosphere it holds is so eerie Taking place in a lighthouse above the bluffs creates an isolate atmosphere that is reminiscent of Stephen King It has this tone that makes it eerie without adding much to it O’Malley lets the story speak for itself she lets the description build upon itself and create the mystiue that lures the reader into the mystery of it all It’s captivating how the story functions in that way to focus on the use of language to captivate the reader O’Malley knows how to show and not tell and she does it so wellOn top of that there is the 200 year gap that goes into the storytelling The story shifts from the 1800s to 2017 to focus on two separate women in who both live in the lighthouse Hope from the year 2017 is having visions of something terrible happening at the lighthouse except she’s having trouble with it reconciling these visions with her life Hope has never tried to make sense of her visions or the pull the lighthouse has on her but once she meets Clooney everything becomes stronger for her making it harder for her to live day by day It’s interesting how the story goes how it creates Hope and makes her persona and narrative so different from Adelia These are two very distinct voices that drive the story and what’s the flashbacks the way they build the history also serve to build the mysteryThe novel goes back and forth effortlessly between the two narratives keeping the reader from losing interest and losing their place The story is clearly written and uses misdirection so well It’s unpredictable how these two characters relate to one another leading to a mind blowing resolution That’s what makes it so good Yes the narratives maintain their own tone and distinctions but the fact that the tension and pace enthralled the reader keeping the reader on their toes it what makes the piece as a whole so accomplished As a ghost story a paranormal story it keeps the reader at the edge it maintains the mystiue That’s what’s so powerful about this novel and why it’s so goodThe story flows it has an enthralling setting and captivating characters and this air about it that makes the reader just want to curl up and read The pace keeps it moving keeps the edge on the tension so that builds just so perfectly Honestly a great read

The House That Adeila Built by Mya O'Malley is a story about mystery romance and ghosts This is not my first story by this author but I will say that it is my favorite of hers yet Her writing style is such that it just pulls me in right from the beginning Her attention to details make me feel like I am right there with the characters With this story it is like reading two different stories in one book She switches back in forth between the present and the past but she does it in a way where I didn't get lost or confused of where I was There are a few main characters in this book and they are lovable and connectable They will pull at your heart strings one minute and the next you will feel compassion for them They will take you on some twists and turns that will leave you uestioning and wanting This story revolves around a lighthouse The first couple moved there after they were married back in 1800 After awhile he started changing and she was confused on why Present day Hope is a woman who is a little lost and has low self esteem She is having nightmares at night and is not sure what they mean When she starts investigating why she is having these dreams what will she uncover? There is something about the lighthouse that has drawn her to it She can't seem to stay away from it for long periods of time Will she uncover a connection to the lighthouse? She also meets a man who they spend uite a bit of time together What will happen when they start developing feelings for each other? This story reveals lies betrayals and heartbreaks and will take you on a journey of heart and sadness This group of characters lives are intertwined easily and they will keep you guessing at what will happen to them next I enjoyed seeing both stories the past and the present Their characters are strong determined and have been through a lot What will happen to them as fears are faced and an attraction to this lighthouse is revealed? This author did a great job of intertwining them together and made the story flow I highly recommend this story as I know you will want to see if there is a happily ever after in this story

The House that Adelia BuiltBy Mya O’Malley5 out of 5 starsThe story The House that Adelia Built by Mya O’Malley is an amazing book that I absolutely loved reading It is a beautiful story that includes romance and ghosts The book goes back and forth between the present day and the late 1800’s It tells the story of two women Hope and Adelia Hope lives in the present day and Adelia lived in the past You read of Adelia and how her marriage had such a happy beginning and how it changes after her husband moves them to a lighthouse She finds her husband changing and doesn’t understand why It is sad to read about how unhappy Adelia is What happens to this couple? You also read about Hope and how she experiences panic when she is away from the same lighthouse and her home for any period of time These are two characters that you get to know well by reading about their thoughts and feelings throughout the book I also enjoyed reading about the character of Clooney He is the handsome man who is falling for Hope and they are constantly together This is a book that is both heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time It is sad to read of how Hope struggles in her life to leave her home and the way that she believes others see and judge her It is wonderful to read of how patient Clooney is with Hope and truly wants to help her Hope finds herself having nightmaresvisions that are getting worse She finds herself investigating what they could mean What will her investigation uncover? This is a story that has plenty of twists and turns and will have you not wanting to put the book down until you have read the final page I have read several books by the author and have found her to be an amazing writer who creates amazing characters Her stories have a way of staying on my mind even after I am done reading them I can’t wait to read her other books and what she writes in the future

Mya O’Malley is not a new author to me but I must confess this has to be my absolute favorite novel she has published so far and I have read all but two of her others That is really saying a lot coming from me as I am not normally a fan of historical romances of any sort The dates and things jumping back and forth from present day to the past often is just not easy for me to follow and therefore makes it hard to enjoy the book O’Malley really does this transitioning effortlessly and smoothly I had no troubles following what was going on and I was uite engrossed in the entire story So much so that I found myself staying up well past my bedtime to finish this novel I had to know how the story was going to work outAdelia MacGregor lived with her husband Augustus beside a lighthouse Augustus is not the man that Adelia married He has become reclusive and distant even a bit jealous Ultimately Adelia was now living in fear of her husbandFast forward to 2017 and we meet Hope and her bestie Tracy They now inhabit this house that is beside the elusive lighthouse Hope is pulled towards this lighthouse So much so that she often has a very difficult time leaving it for very long There is just something about this lighthouse that is nagging at her She decides to look into its past and in the process she meets Cloony Cloony is a local bartender and also pulls at the attention of Hope What Hope ultimately discovers will be far from anything she could have ever imaginedI had no idea what to expect with this novel and the ending threw me for a loop but made sense in the end Overall the story flowed beautifully and was a gripping mystery I found myself deeply engrossed in from the very beginning to the end I look forward to seeing what else is to come from O’Malley in the future and to going and reading the other two that I have not read yet from her available now

In 1876 Adelia MacGregor was living beside a lighthouse with her husband Augustus who was no longer the man she married Once full of life he had become jealous and reclusive and he frightened AdeliaIn 2017 Hope and her best friend Tracy were now living in the house beside the lighthouse on Amity Island and they were trying to discover the past of the area There was something about the lighthouse that intrigued Hope and she had a hard time leaving itAs Hope learns about the past she meets Cloony a local bartender whom she is drawn too As Hope Cloony and Tracy learn about the history of the lighthouse they discover that the past is linked to the present in a way they could have never imagined This was a super interesting book about linking the past and the future and seeing similarities emerge between the different charactersI thought Adelia was a great character and I can't imagine how difficult things were for her at the time with it being so long ago and being away from everyone except Augustus and then Devon Bane She was strong in trying to keep everything together and I really admired her character I thought Hope was super interesting too and I really liked her friendship with Tracy I was so glad that she took a chance with Cloony and I liked how willing he was to help her with everything she was trying to learnI must admit that the end was not what I was looking or hoping for but the book was a good read and I look forward to from the author
